What is important to know before using sunscreen, the correct rules for using sunscreen, the use and precautions of sunscreen

When to use sunscreen, how to use it, what to use before, what to use after, how long to use, etc.

What kind of sunscreen to use?

There are different types of sunscreens available in the market. For example, cream, gel, lotion, spray etc. The importance of using sunscreen is immense. Vitamin D is produced in our body in the presence of sunlight. But the sun's ultraviolet rays, UVA, UVB, are harmful to the skin. Sunscreen or sunblock protects human skin from the sun's ultraviolet rays. Ultra violet rays are responsible for aging, pigmentation, dark spots, age marks, wrinkles etc. on our skin. Ultra violet B rays can cause various types of irritation on our skin. It can even lead to cancer. Sunscreen should be used according to skin type. Normal, combination, oily, dry, hypersensitive skin, i.e. every skin type should choose a sunscreen according to their skin type. Make sure you are buying the right sunscreen before buying it and check its manufacturing and expiration dates before using it.

When to use

Those who work in the oven or stay in the sun for a long time should apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before going to the oven or sunlight. Sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours.

Why use it?

Human skin contains cells called melanocytes. Melanin is mainly produced from those cells. UV rays increase the amount of melanin and the skin is initially slightly red and gradually darkens. Those who do not use sunscreen, have a sunburn on their skin.

Important to know before use

Another important thing to note before using sunscreen. SPF stands for Sun Protective Factor, i.e. how long the skin will be safe from the ultraviolet rays of the sun, that time is basically understood by looking at the SPF. The higher the SPF, the longer the skin is protected from the sun's UV rays. For our country we should use SPF at least 30 to 50. But for those who work in direct sunlight or near stoves, SPF 50 is best. So, while buying sunscreen, look for the plus sign next to the SPF. The higher the plus sign, the greater the protection.

Can something else be used?

Many people want to know whether moisturizer or make-up cosmetics can be used along with sunscreen. Of course it can be used. Clean thoroughly first. Then use moisturizer. Then use sunscreen. There are some make-up cosmetics available in the market these days that contain sunscreen. Sunscreen must be used even if the sunlight is not intense i.e. even if it is a cloudy day.

Use of sunscreen

Sunscreen is a very important cosmetic to protect the skin from the harmful rays of the sun. However, in many cases, due to improper use, the required protection is not available.

A beauty website lists some common sunscreen mistakes.

– Sunscreen should be used shortly before going out, not right before. Janet Graff, assistant professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, said, “Sunscreen should be used at least half an hour before leaving the house. This allows the cosmetics to start working properly.”

- Sunscreen should be applied not only on the face and hands but also on the whole body which can be exposed to the sun. Otherwise, there is a possibility of skin cancer, said Dr. John Hopkins Scleroderma Center. Noelle Sherber.

- Not only the skin of the body but also the skin of the lips are damaged by the heat of the sun. The skin on the lips is thinner than the skin on the face or other parts of the body. Which is damaged by the sun's ultraviolet rays. So Dr. recommends using lip balm with SPF on the lips. graph.

- It is important to use sunscreen on the lips, feet, hands, ears, back of the neck, etc. Which is often avoided by most people. However, these parts can also be damaged by the heat of the sun.

- Many people don't notice that sunscreen washes off due to sweat or water in summer.

Dr. "A 'non-water-resistant' sunscreen should be chosen when there is a high chance of sweating or exposure to water," says Scherber.

– Different sunscreens should be used for body and skin, which many people don't know.

“The skin on the face is softer than the skin on the body. Therefore, special formula sunscreens are made so that there is no problem or acne on the skin of the face. Choose an alcohol-free sunscreen for the body.” Said Dr. Sharbar

- On cloudy days, many people think that the heat of the sun is unlikely to damage the skin.

Dr. "Clouds block about 80 percent of the sun's harmful rays," Graf said. So it is important to use sunscreen on cloudy days like any other time.”

- The idea that it is possible to escape from the harmful rays of the sun if the windows of the house or car are closed is completely wrong.

Dr. "Windows or windshields block 'UVB' rays so sunburns don't occur," says Sherber. However, window glass cannot block UVA rays. So the skin is not fully protected inside the house or car. That is why you should use moisturizer with SPF even at home.

- Cosmetics with SPF 8 or 15 act as sunscreen but are not enough to protect against the sun's harmful rays. So it is necessary to choose a sunscreen with adequate level of SPF. Sunblock with SPF 30 protects skin from 97 percent of the sun's harmful rays. Whereas SPF 50 provides protection from 98 percent of harmful rays.

– It is completely wrong to believe that once you apply sunscreen, it will work all day long.

Dr. "It's just as important to apply sunscreen before you leave the house as it is to reapply it every once in a while," says Graf. Sunscreen should be applied every 80 minutes.”

– Most sunscreen wraps recommend avoiding the skin around the eyes. However, UV rays are very harmful for the delicate skin around the eyes. Therefore, sunglasses with UV protection should be used to protect the eyes and skin from the sun.
